A Micro Forest is a dense planting of trees, shrubs, and groundcovers. The carefully selected plants grow faster and denser than those planted by conventional methods. Native species adapted to local conditions are used with proper soil treatment and drainage.
The micro forest can be on very small parcels. Part of a residential lot or the middle of a cul de sac are possibilities. The landscaped boundaries of our developments can be made into micro forests. Our State Department of Transportation could plant micro forests on right of way.
The following are improved by micro forests
- Cooler streets and buildings
- More attractive cities
- Increase of biodiversity
- Improved habitat
- Reduced storm water runoff
- Better air quality
- Carbon capture reducing warming
