Benefits of Micro Forests

  1. Cooler streets and buildings
  2. More attractive cities
  3. Increase of biodiversity
  4. Improved habitat
  5. Reduced storm water runoff
  6. Better air quality
  7. Carbon sequestration reducing global warming

  1. Cooler streets and buildings
    1. The shade provided by the trees reduces the temperature of pavement and buildings. It keeps the heat above and also converts some of the sunlight into trees and leaves.
  2. More attractive cities
    1. The trees make the city more attractive. Landscaping improves appearance.
  3. Increase of biodiversity
    1.
  4. Improved habitat
    1. The forest floor and branches increase habitat. It provides sustenance and shelter for animals.
  5. Reduced storm water runoff
    1. The leaves of the trees capture rainfall.  The water slowly drips to the ground, capturing more rainfall and reducing storm water runoff. Vegetation and plant debris slow surface runoff en- couraging sediment and sediment-bound contami- nants to settle before entering surface water. Root growth and plant residue improve soil structure which enhance infiltration of dissolved contam- inants.
  6. Better air quality

  7. Carbon sequestration reducing global warming
    1. Sunlight is converted to plant biomass, taking carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere.  Some of the carbon is fixed in the ground and wood.
